Often, when it comes to evangelism, the presentation is a personal testimony. Someone tells the story of how Jesus has impacted his or her life. The pattern goes something like this:
"I was a terrible person living a terrible life. Then at a point when my life was at the lowest, my friend invited me to church and I heard about Jesus. I accepted him as Savior and my life turned around and I became a new person. You should do that, too."
What is right about that presentation?
I like that it is a very personal presentation and that it shows the reality of what Christ does in someone's life.
What is wrong about that presentation?
It doesn't go far enough to be called evangelism. The story is a lot about the presenter and very little about Jesus—who he is or what he's done for the world.
My point? Yes, include your story but make sure that you include more of the Jesus story. In our next session, we're going to look at a way of clearly sharing the Jesus story in a world that is obsessed with stories.
